Symphony Orchestra
The Symphony Orchestra of Munsang College was established in 2009 and holds a unique position as the most active music groups in school. Comprising the String Orchestra and a number of outstanding members in Symphonic Band, the Orchestra is going to present numerous performances with local and internationally renowned artists in a wide range of venues from school to concert halls. The orchestra’s programming embraces a diverse repertoire from Classical to Broadway Musical, which provides a wide variety of aesthetic learning to the audiences.

Dr. Henry SHEK (石信之博士), an international-acclaimed conductor, is currently the artistic director and chief conductor of the orchestra.  

Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band was formed in 2002 and was the major achievement of Western Instrumental Music Training Programme, the largest aesthetic development learning programme offered to the students in Munsang College. The Band presents a series of six to seven performances in various locations. The Band has collaborated with varies professional organizations such as the Hong Kong Band Director Association, the Taiwan Band Association in Asian Pacific Band Festival and the Taiwan Clinic, one of the biggest band and orchestra music festivals in Asia. Furthermore, the band has also participated in many exchange programs with local secondary schools such as Wah Yan College and St. Clare’s Girls’ School.

The Symphonic Band was awarded the Gold Prize in the 2009 Hong Kong Youthe Music Interflow – Symphonic Band Contest and the Best Performance Prize in the 22nd Kowloon City Schools Music Interflow. Mr. CHEUNG Ying-hung (BA (Hon), CUHK, Post Grad Dip, HKAPA) is currently the Band Director and Chief Conductor of the Symphonic Band.

String Orchestra
Now entering its eighth season, String Orchestra of Munsang College has established itself as one of the leading ensembles in school, with regular performances at major venues each year. Also, the orchestra is divided into a number of conductorless string ensemble, members rehearse in a collaborative effort that allows each of them to have an impact on the artistic process. The flexibility and intimacy of a string ensemble are thus fused with the power and scope of an orchestra.

String Orchestra was awarded the Silver Prize in the 2009 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflow – String Orchestra Contest. Ms. FUNG Hiu-kwan Nancy (BA (Hon), MA in Music Composition, HKBU, FTCL) is currently the conductor of the orchestra.

The Choir is the longest-established music group in Munsang College and has developed into an ensemble of more than 60 members. The choir presents a wide repertoire from the Renaissance vocal works to contemporary speech choir compositions. The choir participates in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and Schools Speech Choir Showcase each year, as well as in a variety of performances at major venues.

Ms. PAU Fung-mei Shirley (BA (Hon), CUHK, Post Grad Dip, HKAPA) is currently the chorus master of the choir.

Chinese Instrumental Orchestra
The Chinese Orchestra was formed by a group of students interested in Chinese Instrument about eight years ago and three years ago in the Primary Section and the Secondary Section respectively.  In the past few years, the Orchestra has performed in various events such as MSC Anniversary Variety Show, the Hong Kong Japanese School Open Day and The Kowloon City Youth Chinese Orchestra Concert.  The Orchestra also won prizes in different competitions.  This year, both the Primary Section and the Secondary Section won a bronze medal in the Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows 2009 (Chinese Orchestra)
